Safety at NearbyGrid

Your safety comes first. Here is how NearbyGrid protects you and how to get help.

Report a concern

You can report any profile, message, photo, group, or event from inside the app and on the web. Use Report on a conversation or a person in the grid. For urgent concerns or anything you cannot report in-app, reach us through our contact form. We review reports and remove content or accounts that break our Community Guidelines, and we act on reports of objectionable content and abusive users promptly — within 24 hours for serious violations. If three or more people report the same account, it is automatically placed under review.

Block anyone

Blocking is one tap. When you block someone, you disappear from each other everywhere: the map, grid, profile visitors, group invites, and search. Your conversation is hidden and they can no longer message you. You can manage blocked users in More.

Your location is protected

NearbyGrid shows only approximate distance. Your exact location is never shared with other members. You can turn on Browse invisibly to use the app without appearing to others, and Hide my distance at any time, in your profile.

Private photos

Private photos are shared only with people you choose, and you approve each request. You can turn off access at any time. Sharing is always free, and we never charge to view a specific person's photos. You can report any photo.

Meeting in person

Meeting people from the internet in the real world can lead to unexpected situations we can't control. Take it at your own pace and use common sense:

• Meet in a public place the first few times — never at your home or theirs.
• Tell a friend where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back; share your live location with someone you trust.
• Video-chat or talk first to confirm the person is who they say they are.
• Arrange your own transportation there and back, and keep your phone charged.
• Don't overshare personal or financial information, and never send money.
• Trust your instincts — it's always okay to leave or end a date early.

We do not conduct background checks and cannot guarantee anyone's identity or conduct. If someone pressures you for money, asks you to move off NearbyGrid right away, or makes you uncomfortable, treat it as a red flag and report it.

At events and groups

Every event has a host who serves as your point of contact, and groups have coordinators who set the rules. Hosts should clearly describe the activity, who it's for, and any safety considerations before you RSVP or join. Attend at your own discretion, arrive and leave on your own terms, and if a host or another attendee breaks our rules you can report the event, the group, or the organizer directly in the app.

Respect, consent, and health

Consent is required for every interaction and can be withdrawn at any time. Do not out anyone's orientation, gender identity, or health status, and do not share anyone's private photos, messages, or personal information. NearbyGrid does not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on someone's sexual health or STI status — disclosure is a personal choice and a shared responsibility, never a reason to demean anyone.

Zero tolerance

We have zero tolerance for sexual content involving minors and report it to NCMEC and law enforcement. We honor removal of non-consensual intimate imagery under the U.S. TAKE IT DOWN Act, typically within 48 hours. Submit those requests to [email protected].
